MSU American Indian Hall

Client Profile
Montana State University’s American Indian Hall is a student-centered academic and cultural facility in Bozeman that serves Native American and Alaska Native students while fostering community and learning. Designed to the highest sustainability standards, the building achieved LEED Platinum Version 4.1 — the most advanced green building certification under the U.S. Green Building Council rating system — reflecting MSU’s leadership in energy-efficient and environmentally responsible design.
Case Study
At the American Indian Hall, OnSite Energy installed a 67.76 kW solar photovoltaic system as part of the building’s high-performance energy strategy. This solar array works alongside geothermal heating and cooling and other sustainable features to reduce reliance on conventional energy sources and support MSU’s operational efficiency goals. The building’s LEED Platinum Version 4.1 certification — the first of its kind in Montana — underscores a broader commitment to sustainability, resource conservation, and long-term value for students and the campus community.
